Old Wars, New Stories. Ukraine in the Global World
The history of Ukraine has for long been considered as a diaspora discipline defined through its narrow ethnonational focus, with western scholars viewing the history through the lens of nationalism. This conference aims to challenge these views and discuss new perspectives of the history and historiography of Ukraine as European and global history.
We will bring together leading scholars in the field of modern European and Eastern European history, both from western academic institutions and Ukraine to debate various new directions for researching and writing the history of the Ukrainian lands and various communities which have populated those lands. By encouraging a dialogue across academic traditions we will provide opportunities for Ukrainian scholars to influence major scholarly debates, as well as test potential avenues for applying unorthodox theoretical and methodological models to Ukrainian studies.
This conference is being organized by Professor Olena Palko (University of Basel) and Professor Iryna Vushko (Princeton University).
