Pokuaa recently completed her PhD in International History and Politics (minor in Anthropology) at the Geneva Graduate Institute, having previously been a research member for the Decolonising the Psyche project (Swiss National Science Foundation, SNSF). Her research focuses on the history of psychological observations of children, particularly in East African colonial contexts. She examines how these psychological disciplines constructed the mental and rational abilities of ‘the African’ from childhood to adulthood, contributing to broader discussions within the histories of the human sciences, childhood, race and gender.
Since October 2025, Pokuaa has been a research member of the SNSF project Self-Control: Race, Gender, and Social Science at the University of Basel. She was a visiting research fellow at the University of Oxford's Centre for the History of Science. Additionally, she is an officer of the Society for the History of Children and Youth.
