Maarten Halff ist BGSH-Fellow
Der Historiker und UN-Officer besucht die BGSH vom 24. April bis 9. Mai 2023
Vom 24. April bis zum 9. Mai 2023 wird Maarten Halff die Basel Graduate School of History als Fellow besuchen. Er ist ein freischaffender Historiker der Frühen Neuzeit und hauptberuflich Senior Political Affairs Officer der UN Electoral Assistance Division, zurzeit "on special leave".
Seine Forschungsgebiete umfassen die Globalgeschichte des Mittelmeerraumes, speziell Venedig und seine östlichen Kolonien, Handelsrouten und maritimen Besitzungen, unter anderem das spätbyzantinische Konstantinopel.
Während seines Aufenthalts wird er venezische Mikrogeschichten im Vormoderne-Kolloquium präsentieren (26.04.2023) sowie einen Doktorierenden-Workshop unter dem Titel "Close Encounters of the Primary Kind: Strategies for Navigating Archives and Archival Sources" durchführen (2.5.2023). Zudem wird er im Rahmen einer Zusammenarbeit der BGSH mit swisspeace eine Diskussion zum Thema "The acceptance and non-acceptance of electoral results: a historical view" anbieten (4.5.2023).

From 24 April to 9 May 2023, Maarten Halff will visit the Basel Graduate School of History as a Fellow. He is an independant historian of the early modern period and full-time Senior Political Affairs Officer at the UN Electoral Assistance Division, currently on special leave.
His research areas include the global history of the Mediterranean, specifically Venice and its eastern colonies, trade routes and maritime possessions, including late Byzantine Constantinople.
During his stay, he will present Venetian Microhistories in the Pre-Modern Colloquium (26/04/2023) as well as conduct a PhD workshop entitled "Close Encounters of the Primary Kind: Strategies for Navigating Archives and Archival Sources" (2/5/2023). He will also offer a discussion on "The acceptance and non-acceptance of electoral results: a historical view" as part of a collaboration between the BGSH and swisspeace (4/5/2023).
