"Global Habits? Textiles in and between Africa and Europe"

""

2. Studientag Europa transepochal am 21. September 2017

Textiles, cloth and dress were central items connecting Africa and Europe for centuries. They circulated across the Atlantic, the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean, serving as a transcultural currency in the trade of people. Moreover, they transported ideas about fashion, forming bodies as well as identities and ideas of civilization. During our workshop, we will discuss with invited experts, study research literature and analyse sources on early modern European history and modern Africa.
