African History Movie Night: The Battle of Algiers

We are hosting a film club, 'African History Movie Night,' once a month during the Autumn semester, at the History Department. We will show classic features from African cinema, produced during the 1960s and 1970s across the African continent. Everyone is invited, there will be snacks and all movies are provided with English subtitles.

Charting the history of Algeria’s National Liberation Movement, Italian director Gillo Pontecorvo’s movie is a classic political film. "Riveting as a suspense thriller and rigorously clear-eyed in its presentation of atrocities committed by both sides.” (British Film Institute)

Coordination: Max Hufschmidt, Kai Kersten-Kwame & Claire Nicolas.
