SUMMARY:Beyond the Headlines. Rethinking Ukraine since 2014: Academic Knowl
 edge and Public Engagement
DESCRIPTION:Since 2014\, and especially since the beginning of Russia’s f
ull-scale invasion in 2022\, Ukraine has moved to the centre of public and
political attention. During the last twelve years\, experts on Ukraine an
d Eastern Europe have been increasingly called upon by the media\, schools
and the wider public to explain complex developments and respond to curre
nt events. This has also raised questions about the boundaries between aca
demic expertise\, public engagement\, and advocacy.\\r\\nThe panel asks ho
w public debates about Ukraine have changed over the past decade\, what mi
sconceptions persist\, and what happens when academic knowledge enters med
ia and public discourse. What can academic research contribute beyond the
daily news cycle – and what should we be talking about when we talk abou
t Ukraine beyond the war?\\r\\nChair: F. Benjamin Schenk (Head of Ukrainia
n Research in Switzerland (URIS))\\r\\nDiscussants: Tetiana Kyselova (Lega
l scholar)\, Gwendolyn Sasse (Director of the Centre for East European and
International Studies (ZOiS))\, Maryna Shevtsova (Political scientist)\,
and Claude Wild (Swiss amabassador to Ukraine 2019-2023)\\r\\nMore informa

SUMMARY:Podiumsdiskussion "Waffe – Opfer – Widerstand. Kultur in Russla
wo beginnt kulturelles Whitewashing?\\r\\nDarüber sprechen Kateryna Rietz
-Rakul\, Direktorin des Ukrainischen Instituts in Deutschland\, und der Sl
awist Ulrich Schmid (HSG St. Gallen).
